 Elwood, a small suburb of Melbourne, Australia, is where it all began for 15 students in a single room at the back of their house. More than 1,000 students attended six campuses of this large Greek school in recent years, which had humble beginnings. It is still, to this day, a cutting-edge school of the Greek language and culture.

●     Our Greek language and culture instructors are always eager to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with their students. The richness and diversity of our Greek culture and history are woven into the curriculum. Among the many ways we celebrate Greek culture with our students are lighting the kandelaki (oil lamp) and announcing name days, dressing up for Apokries, marking the 25th of March and the 28th of October as National Days, honouring the birthday of our national poet, DionysiosSolomos, holding an Easter Egg Crack Off Competition, and dressing up as Kalikatzarakia (St Basil) for Christmas.

 

●     Term 3 is all about our ancient history. Dress-ups and project exhibitions for children are becoming more common in schools. We also take part in the Shrine of Remembrance Parade on the 25th of March, host dinner dances, end-of-year concerts, and host Tavern Nights for our VCE students.

 

●     Students at Greek Schools In Melbourne can choose from a variety of general education and AP courses. The Panhellenic exams are taken by students who want to pursue higher education studies in one of the following categories: Science, Humanities, and Medical Studies, Computer Science Studies and, Finance, or a combination thereof. This is regarded as a gruelling and competitive examination process that students must pass in order to advance their education.
